Rookie Ball is for 7 and 8 year olds. Depending on skill level, experience and number of registrants - 6 and 9 year olds may also be considered for Rookie Ball.
9 year old players who are new to baseball will be asked to start at the Rookie evaluations, to determine the best fit for the player.
Players will be placed on smaller teams in the Rookie Division consisting of 6-9 players. Teams typically rotate between playing games and practicing skills throughout the season; the format this year will be dependent on COVID protocols in place at the time. Trail Little League uses a ‘sling arm’ pitching machine for games at the Rookie Ball level.
In past years, Rookie Ball has been played twice per week on Monday, Wednesday or Friday evenings after 4pm. However, the schedule this year will depend on number of registrants and scheduling around COVID protocols. Season schedule will be determined in late April or early May, with 'Opening Day' targeted for Saturday May 8th, and the season ending the week of June 21st to 25th.
